Justin Timberlake has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his supporting role in The Social Network. Congrats I guess but…this seems a little off, no? As the NAACP describes their awards, they “honor accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film”. While I do applaud them on broadening their horizons, I don’t know how we should feel. What do you think?
Can we have one award show to our selves.. How can a white man be nominated for a NAACP award.. Do we forget how he sold Janet out after the super bowl incident..
I do find this odd. Is this like the Golden Globes nominating Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp for The Tourist, so they would show up. Then again why do they need JT. Alfred, no I did not forget, but that is the past…I guess.
The issue I have is that JT’s good performance in the Social Network does not represent people of color nor was the film about or features people of color. Ok, the film does have Rashida Jones and I think a black kid was on a laptop, but C’MON SON. JT is our fave wannabe, but this is either JT’s people pushed for this to help with a Oscar nod or this shows how weak 2010 was for blacks in film.
