Reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee is being sued over his #1 hit, “Rompe.” The smash single was released back in 2005 and now a Mexican songwriter claims that Yankee stole the song from him. The songwriter claims that he wrote the song back in 1998. I’m not sure why he would wait this long to file a lawsuit but that’s on him. Hit the jump to read more info.

Daddy Yankee Accused Of Stealing Song
Popular reggaeton artist Daddy Yankee is being hit with a lawsuit by a Mexican artist who claims the Puerto Rican spitter stole the hit song, “Rompe.â€
David Moser of San Miguel, Mexico filed a lawsuit in United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois, alleging that he wrote the original version of “Romp†entitled “Anoche†in 1998. The plaintiff claims his song received radio play in Mexico City.
He goes on to claim Yankee used his version as the basis his song “Romp†which would go on to reach #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin chart, staying there for over three months.
Named in the suit are Daddy Yankee and his label El Cartel. They are accused of copyright infringement.
Moser is seeking a judgment in the amount of $150,000 in damages, as well as profit shares from the sales of “Rompe.â€
Reggaeton is one of the most Greatest Genres ever to come out in the 1990s. Hold your head Daddy Yankee.
