Former UNLV and NBA star Armen Gilliam died Tuesday night playing basketball.

WTAE in Pittsburgh reportsthat the 6-foot-9 forward was rushed to St. Clair Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Gilliam, 47, is from Bethel Park, a Pittsburgh suburb. He played in the 1987 Final Four with a Runnin’ Rebel team that won 38 games and was then the No.2 overall pick in the draft by the Phoenix Suns.

Gilliam averaged 23.2 points and 9.3 rebounds as a senior and his UNLV team lost to eventual champion Indiana 1987. Gilliam was picked on the All-Tournament team.

In 13 NBA seasons he averaged 13.7 points and 6.9 rebounds playing for seven teams.
