A 39-year-old Michigan man was arrested after cops say he put his nine-year-old daughter in a booster and let her drive his van – while he sat drunk in the passenger seat.
Shawn Russell Weimer told police that he was merely giving the girl a driving lesson – and that he had let her drive before, WXYZ-TV reported.
One man who called 911 after spotting the child in the driver’s seat told dispatchers that she even had her turn signal on.
“She’s driving pretty good, I’m telling you, I can’t believe it,” said the witness, according to MSNBC.
Cops told MSNBC that when Weimer and his daughter were stopped, she was confused about what she had done wrong.
“She looks at the uniformed police officer, and says ‘What did you stop me for? I was driving good,'” said one detective.
“Absolutely incredible.”
Weimer also told officers that he didn’t believe he had done anything wrong. He was charged with two counts of child abuse and habitual criminal activity due to prior convictions, the television station reported.
He was freed on $25,000 bond.
Weimer is also not allowed to have any more contact with his daughter, who cops say lives with her mother.
