A Pasco County man who took exception to his wife saying former Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Warren Sapp “seemed nice” was arrested and charged with battery by strangulation over the weekend.

Christopher Ellis, 49, spent Saturday watching football games and was drunk and angry by 11 p.m., the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday.

According to the the arrest report, Ellis began arguing with his wife after she stated her opinion about Sapp, the stellar but controversial former defensive lineman turned TV commentator.

Ellis followed his wife into the kitchen of their Lake Padgett Estates East home and grabbed her by the throat. He shoved the 37-year-old woman into their bedroom, pinned her on the bed, squeezed her throat and threatened to punch her teeth out and slapped her on the side of her head, the report states.

The woman freed herself and called 911. Ellis was released from jail Sunday on $1,000 bond.
