DM -A ‘courageous’ mother-of-three beaten by her husband hid out in the woods with her two young daughters to escape a seven-year cycle of abuse.

Lisa Holden, 27, was found in late March by a passerby by the side of the County Road 4512 in east Texas, where she had been for two days, drifting in and out of consciousness and trying to flag down cars for help.

Her husband, 28-year-old Josh Holden, is accused of beating her with electrical wiring and a baseball bat because he was angry that she was not getting their children ready for school quickly enough, according to the Tyler Paper.

She fled with the two girls while he took their 7-year-old daughter to school, adding that he would kill her when he got back. He said the attack was ‘just a taste’ of what she was going to get.

‘Her head had been shaved and it looked like she had been scalped,’ Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office investigator Kristie Holt told the Tyler Paper.

‘She had wounds all over her body, from bruises to open wounds pretty much on her arms and legs.’

Controlling Mr Holden had wired up video cameras in the couple’s home in which he kept his wife prisoner, monitoring her movement with an application on his iPhone that allowed him to see inside the house.

He abused her for seven years, Holt said, describing ‘a courageous woman who got out when she could’.

Mrs Holden suffered two broken legs, and head injuries and was in hospital in a critical condition for 10 days. Her children were taken to a foster family while she recovered.

Medical staff found metal pellets lodged in her legs from a previous attack when her husband had shot her with a pellet gun, leaving behind the shrapnel and open sores.

Mr Holden was arrested on Monday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and bodily injury. He was released after bail was reduced from $750,000 to $100,000.Â
