Magic Slim
Blues great, Magic Slim, passed away on just after midnight on Thursday at age 75. Slim, whose real name is Morris Holt, died in a Philly hospital from health issues. Slim had health problems for a while that worsened on tour. Magic Slim and his backing band, the Teardrops helped shape the sound of Chicago’s electric blues and Slim was known as a “younger contemporary of blues greats Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf.” Read more below.

Bleeding ulcers is what sent Magic Slim to the hospital this time, but that he also suffered from heart, lung and kidney ailments. His first album, “Born Under A Bad Sign,” was released in 1977 and he put out his final album of covers, “Bad Boy,” just last year.
