As the World Athletics Championship begins in Moscow, Russia, hundreds of london protestors hit the streets on Saturday against a Russian anti-gay law propaganda. The demonstrators gathered in the British capital in hopes to push the ministry to repeal the law. The law:

“imposes significant fines of up to $31,000 for providing information about the LGBT community to minors, holding gay pride events, speaking in defense of gay rights, or equating gay and heterosexual relationships. In a truly egalitarian and internationalist spirit, the bill applies to Russians and foreigners alike, as well as media organizations”

The law which was enacted on Tuesday in Russia, has received much backlash due to its discrimination against the gay community. The political leaders amongst those opposing the anti-gay propaganda law, include President Obama. Bans of adoptions of children by same-sex couples have also been put into place in Russia by President Vladimir Putin.

“Internationally, over 350,000 people have signed an online petition calling on world leaders and Russian politicians to push for a repeal of anti-gay laws and to protect citizens from violence and discrimination”.

In the U.S, many Gay’s Bars have been protesting and showing their support by banning the selling of Russian Vodka within their bars.
The 2014 Winter Olympics are set to take place in Russia, yet there is speculation that there may be boycotts against the event, if the anti-gay sentiments do not change. Yet Britain representatives claim that they will not boycott the games, from taking place there.
