Dom Kennedy & I chatted for a while on the topics of fashion, sneakers & more. Q: How are you? How’s everything going in L.A. ?
A. Everything’s going real good in L.A. I’m loving it. Everything good over this way.
Q: So being Dom Kennedy your known for a vary of different things, I see that your into the fashion. Define your Style?
A. It’s more like vintage. My uncle taught me everything he introduced me to a lot of different brands. My uncle is a heavy style influence, I took everything from him. I’ve seen a lot of different style changes from being in L.A. Like the L.A. Vintage style I just try to do what the people do and put my own little twist on it.
Q: What is one track off “Get Home Safely” that defines your style perfectly?
A. I’d say that “After School” or that “Still Callin” and even “South Central Love”
Q: How is your OPM Apparel going?
A. It’s going real good we started that years ago we didn’t want to do too much with it. We wanted the apparel to expand like having it in stores and stuff. I didn’t want to be ahead of myself with the gear. Most of the designs are things I drew while I was on the road that represented me well really all of us like beanies, tees and all that.
Q: What’s your favorite piece from the collection?
A. My favorite piece would have to be the first OPM Long Sleeve with my dad’s pic on it.
Q: What new pieces should we expect from OPM Apparel coming soon?
A. Hoodies, T-Shirts, specific pieces for the girls, they rock with me heavy.
Q: I see that you rock the baseball jerseys & hockey jerseys quite frequently, how many of those are in your closet?
A. About 30-50, all together I got a lot of flannels, sweaters & jackets. I like to keep those in my collection.
Q: Nike SB’s or Black Cement 3’s? Which ones we rocking with.
A. Black Cement 3’s, it’s certain Nike SB’s I would love to have but Imma go with the 3’s for sure.
Q: I saw the custom vans you did on your instagram, how long did it take for you to make those?
A. It took like a hour and a half,with just a sharpie. I’ve always loved vans, I was just doing something they turned out better than what I thought. I just drew and utilized what I had.
Q: Your favorite street-wear brand?
A. Stussy and Supreme I’m more into their accessories tho. Like Stussy I like their hoodies, hats and Supreme is good for everything really they really doing good as a brand.
Q: All-Time Favorite Kicks?
A. I’d have to say, looks wise the Air Jordan Bred 4’s and the Vans Sk8 hi.
Q: You like Bape? What was your last purchase?
A. Yeah! I got some bape stuff. I like their accessories like tha hats, backpacks and jackets. The last thing I purchased was a camouflage bape jacket and I’m wearing a bape backpack right now.
Q: Do you consider yourself one of the flyest rappers from out of L.A. right now?
A. Definitely, for sure! I’d be lying to you and myself If I said I didn’t.
Q: How many kicks would you say you have in your closet?
A. About 60 pairs. I threw alot of shoes away, gave em away. If you see me around I wear the same shoes like the same 5 pair around all the time.
Q: You copping the “Yeezy Red Octobers”?
A. Nah, I don’t even know about them. You putting me up on some new stuff. I had no idea of them. Didn’t even know about em.
Q: How did you come up with your album track list cover?
A. I wanted to be different, I took the pic in Crenshaw the same place I took the pic for tha “Yellow album”. I have multiple pics like that. That could’ve went for the cover but I knew whatever I had I wanted it to be black and white that was the inspiration behind my track list cover.
