Wow, innovative and artistic at the same damn time. Chicago artist Jim Bachor decided to make his own moves on fixing Chicago’s terrible pothole problem by taking his artistic talents and bringing them to streets, literally. Bachor filled some of the city’s treacherous potholes with stone mosaics, giving the Chi something nice to look at all the while saving their cars some damage from those nasty bumps in the road. Take a look for yourself after the jump!

With 47,500 complaints on the issue between December and March alone, Bachor stepped to the plate on a growing issue that needed immediate action. It’s crazy how a single artist can work more quickly towards solving this reoccurring problem than the entire Chicago Department of Transportation. Even with the good Bachor is doing, officials say “filling potholes is a task best left to the professionals.” Maybe they feel that they just have to say that though being that the Chicago Department of Transportation isn’t stopping the artist from filling the potholes. How could they not recognize the good in what he’s doing?

Beyond fixing the roads, Bachor is sending a message, to still find beauty in the bumpy roads you may come across cross. “Mr. Bachor and his art are proof that even the coldest, harshest winter can not darken the spirits of Chicagoans,” spokespeople from the Chicago Department of Transportation told the Chicago Tribune.

While Bachor’s acts are admirable, unfortunately most Chicagoans don’t seem to notice. “It’s amazing the percentage of people who pay no attention,” Bachor said. But that doesn’t mean his efforts go unappreciated, there are also Chicago citizens “who stop by and say, ‘Thanks for beautifying our neighborhood.’ One guy stopped to thank me and gave me a coffee and a Danish,” the artist explained.

Got to love seeing a little person making a big difference. Just goes to show we all can make a change in some way, we just need to find where we’re needed.
