State law allows men to receive the engagement ring back if there is a breakup. Joseph Robert Torres tried to sue his former girlfriend named Debbie Lopez, in order to get the ring back. Lopez stated that the ring wasn’t an engagement ring in the first place because Torres never formally got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Even though Torres said he proposed in Rockefeller Plaza, Lopez says Torres’ ring symbolized as “a gift for being a great woman, a good mother of his child.”

Lopez also states that she told friends she was not sure if he was even engaged or not, despite wearing the ring on her wedding finger. Torres thought they were engaged the entire time. Ultimately the judge agreed with Lopez and allowed her to keep the ring.

Wow!
