Two days after West Virginia University ordered a halt on all activities at fraternities and sororities, Nolan Michael Burch was found unconscious and not breathing. His death was confirmed by Amy Johns who is a spokeswoman for WVU Healthcare.

WVU President E. Gordon Gee spoke of Burch’s death in a press release by saying, “The outpouring of love and support from his friends and this community has been what you would expect from Mountaineers, and I would ask that you continue to keep the Burch family and many friends in your thoughts and prayers.” Police Chief Ed Preston confirmed that his death was related to alcohol but he couldn’t comment on if alcohol was the cause of Burch’s death. So far no charges have been filed in relation to the incident. The fraternity is still investigating what lead to Burch’s death and the group’s charter has been withdrawn.
