Family Finds Mastodon Bones in Backyard

Family Finds Mastodon Bones in Backyard and “they’re speechless, it’s a once in a lifetime find” for real…The Michigan family had been digging out their backyard pond since November and has since un-earthed a substantial amount of bones from what’s identified as a 37 year old male Mastodon–that’s right–a dinosaur!

Family Finds Mastodon Bones in Backyard in the Bellevue Township of East County, Michigan for what started as “a simple project” and is now a valuable pre-historical find. (The mastodon BTW is a huge, hairy pre-historic cousin animal to the elephant, weighing in at about 5 tons)! Eric Witzke was having his pond dug with neighbor and contractor Daniel LaPoint Jr. when suddenly, bone after bone of the animal started appearing.

“It was amazing to see these bones and see the size of these bones coming up out of the ground,” Witzke said.

Family Finds Mastodon Bones in Backyard and have since put the reported 42 bones total together as well as brought in experts to certify and catalog the dinosaur’s remains. From the looks of things they feel it was butchered for food then stored in the frozen pond like a refrigerator. Experts say the animal lived anywhere from 10,000–14,000 years ago!

“You stop and think, they were walking around here,” Witzke said.

…CRAZY! They say now they will “put the mastodon to work” by donating its pieces to museums and schools. (Damn…can’t knock the hustle). There have been a reported 330 mastodon bone sites in Michigan alone, better check your backyard! Chances are Jurassic may be rising near you…check the vid!
