Stephen Curry is becoming the most popular player in the NBA. In fact he passed LeBron James and had the most votes for the All-Star game this year. Not only is he lovable, he has incredible shooting and ball handling on one of the most exciting teams to watch. All that put together makes fans come out in droves to see him. Combine all that with the fact that fans at the Barclays Center aren’t the most supportive of their team and you have what felt like a home game for Curry when the Warriors visited the Nets on Monday night.
via Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News:
“I kind of forgot (I was in Brooklyn) for a second, to be honest with you,” Curry said. “I think (the crowd) just had so much bottled-up excitement because nothing happened in the first half and then all of a sudden it started to get going and we had a big contingency of fans.
“Taking that 3-pointer, I just kind of went out and looked around and was kind of like, ‘Where am I?’”
The Nets moved to Brooklyn less than three years ago and don’t really have home grown fans. It’ll take time to build a legitimate fan base and it’s especially difficult considering New York is Knicks Town no matter how terrible they are.
