18-year-old Kyemah McEntyre has been breaking the internet ever since her amazing hand-made prom dress went viral. The Senior at Cicely Tyson School of Performing Arts in East Orange, New Jersey wanted to steer away from the prom dress norm, so she created her own Afro-centric dress all by herself. “Being exposed to all kinds of people and cultures is the muse for my artwork,” she wrote on her Instagram page. “Don’t let anyone define you. Beautiful things happen when you take pride in yourself.” According to McEntyre, she used to be bullied a lot in school. “This is for always being labeled as ‘ugly’ or ‘angry’,” McEntyre went on to say. “Thank God stereotypes are just opinions.”
To add the icing to the cake, McEntyre was also crowned Prom Queen and will be attending college in the Fall. Check out some pics of her dress in the gallery!
