Tragedy struck last night during a baseball game in Atlanta between the Braves and Yankees. A fan, who was reportedly drunk and heckling Alex Rodriguez from the upper deck, wound up falling over the railing and landing on concrete in the stands behind homeplate, which was roughly a 100 foot drop. Paramedics rushed to the scene but the fan passed away later on.

The incident occurred during the seventh inning as the man, reportedly in his 60’s, got too excited trying to trash talk A-Rod and fell over the railing. Witnesses said on the way down he hit some of the cables attached to the backstop that holds up the netting behind homeplate.

The Atlanta Braves offer their deepest condolences to the family,” the team said in a statement. “At this time, all inquiries will be directed to the Atlanta Police Department, as this is an ongoing investigation.”

This unfortunately has happened way too often at games over the past few years. Just a couple years ago at the same stadium a man fell about 85 feet to his death. Another fan at a Texas Rangers game fell to his death from a higher deck as well. It also happened at a football game, where even though alcohol was involved in that incident, there obviously needs to be something done from a safety standpoint.

RIP to the fan and thoughts & prayers go out to his family.
