Scientists added THC to the list of drugs yeast can now produce. Earlier this year, they learned how to get yeast to make hydrocodone (key ingredient to most syrup.) However, THC can help a much larger group of people than syrup. In fact, one researcher called THC “the Ferrari” of his discoveries.

“Right now, we have a plant that is essentially the Ferrari of the plant world when it comes to producing the chemical of interest,” Dr. Page said. “Cannabis is hard to beat.”
