It seems now that the skipping a year for the third installment of ‘The Purge’ movie has been worth the wait. The trailer for the third movie has just been released and it’s appears this time around the film will be making a solid political statement. Titled, The Purge: Election Year, the film will be seemingly appropriate as this year is an election year.

The new film takes place two years after the second film, with Frank Grillo returning to the scene as anti-purge hero Leo Barnes. He’s back as head of security for a senator Charlene Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell), who is planned to be killed during the Purge by higher ups who see her as a threat. Barnes is on a mission to protect her throughout the annual murder affair which leaves puts them on the streets of D.C., fighting for their lives.

The Purge: Election Year is slated to hit theaters July 1st. Hit the jump for the full trailer.
