The police are looking to rule the cause of the crime a robbery but many people in the muslim community are calling this a hate crime.

The shooting took place on 79th Street and Liberty Avenue in Ozone Park, Queens. There is still not enough information to identify the shooter. Even though the police have thought about calling this a robbery, the shooting was near the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid Mosque and took the lives of an Imam leaving many people to believe it was a hate crime.
One of the residents even went as far so to say he blames this shooting on Donald Trump, because of the Islamophobia he’s perpetuated since he started campaigning for presidency. He said:
“That’s not what America is about. We blame Donald Trump for this… Trump and his drama has created Islamophobia.”
