Michelle Obama Praises Chance The Rapper For Donating $1 Million To Chicago Public Schools

Michelle Obama and Chance The Rapper share a hometown in Chicago, and the former FLOTUS is beyond proud of the philanthropic efforts of Chance for their city. Just yesterday, the rapper donated a staggering $1 million to the Chicago Public School system (specifically for the arts,) following a disappointing meeting with Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner about the CPS on Friday. He also set up a fundraiser where for every $100k raised, he will match it with $10k.

Chance the Rapper recently held a press conference at Westcott Elementary School in Chicago Monday. While there he discussed education funding and announce a $1 million donation to Chicago Public Schools. The conference was streamed live. Chance believed that it was an “urgent need” for him to fund Chicago schools.

In addition to the traditional subjects like math, reading and science many elementary school children participate in various electives including art and music class. While some parents may find it hard to keep up with all the material that their child is learning, parents at the John Fiske Elementary School in Chicago were outraged after learning that their children were learning about rapper Chief Keef as part of their music class curriculum.
