The Academy Claims It’s Not Their Fault The Cast Of ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Wasn’t Invited To The Oscars

As we previously reported, the cast of ‘Straight Outta Compton’ would not be attending this year’s 88th Annual Academy Awards. Their decision not to attend however, had nothing to do with the Oscars boycott that has caused numerous celebs including Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith to announce they would not be attending. The Compton cast reportedly was not invited to the Oscars, the only people invited were the two writers for the film that were nominated. Ice Cube remained unbothered by the fact he was not only snubbed for an nomination but left out of the ceremony all together. However, when The Academy was questioned about their reasoning for the diss, they claimed it wasn’t their fault and passed the buck! More below.

(Video) Ice Cube And Straight Outta Compton Cast Will Not Attend The Oscars Because They Weren’t Invited

Ice Cube remains unbothered by the growing controversy surrounding The Oscars. While actors like Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee have called for a boycott of the 88th Annual Awards show, Ice Cube isn’t worried about boycotting because he wasn’t invited! According to TMZ, the cast of “Straight Outta Compton” will NOT be at the Oscars because the only people invited were the two writers that were nominated. It remains unclear if this was done intentionally or what the Acadmey’s process is for inviting actors, but Cube doesn’t seem to care. He’s been questioned multiple times about the Oscars and his feelings and he’s stuck to his answer, “I’m not worried abut the Oscars.” Sources close to him reveal even if he was invited he would have RSVP’d “No.” The Acadmey has yet to respond about why Ice Cube and the cast were not invited but it’s been reported we can expect to see them at the SAG Awards and NAACP Image Awards. @OSheaJacksonJr Will Not Boycott The Oscars

There is a lot of talk going on about the Oscars right now, as many are upset about the lack of diversity in the nominees. Notable names like Jada Pinkett-Smith, Tyrese and Snoop Dogg have announced their decisions to boycott the prestigious awards ceremony until a real change comes, and even the Academy’s President has released a lengthy statement about the situation, promising a concerted effort moving forward to prevent the lack of inclusion. In the conversation about the lack of diversity in the nominees, Straight Outta Compton has come up quite often – as not only did it feature amazing acting from newcomers O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jason Mitchell and Corey Hawkins, but it broke box office records around the globe, and shined another much-needed light on racial profiling from police – a very pressing issue right now. Despite all of this, however, it was only nominated for Best Screenplay…and guess what? The film’s two writers? Yeah, they’re white. SOC star (and my future children’s father! Hey bae!) O’Shea Jackson Jr. isn’t worried, though, and he still plans to be in attendance, come February 28. (Totally available that day if you need a date, Shea…)

Ice Cube Plans To Reunite NWA At Coachella 2016!

Ice Cube is one of the featured performers at the upcoming Coachella 2016 festival, and apparently, he has some major plans for his set! “I’ve got some tricks up my sleeves. I’m gonna try to bring the members of N.W.A together,” the rapper/actor said during his appearance on The Talk last week. “Give everybody a little history lesson on Ice Cube and N.W.A, Westside Connection, everything I’ve been doing over the years.” This should be SO dope, especially because of the piqued interest in all things West, thanks to the success of Straight Outta Compton. Coachella is the same place that Tupac was “resurrected” via hologram in 2012 too, so do you think that Eazy-E might reprise his Rock The Bells role for one more round with the crew? I hope so!

(Photos) Bun B Gives The Oscars A Piece Of His Mind

Rapper Bun B took to Twitter yesterday to share his feelings on this years Oscar nominations. Like so many of us, Bun B was disappointed at the Academy’s decision to leave out or all together ignore so many films that featured people of color, carrying on the Oscars reputation for being predominately, white and male. Specially, Bun B spoke up for Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again,” Idris Elba’s performance in Beats Of No Nation, and the entire Straight Outta Compton film saying they all deserved nods. In a quick Twitter rant he gave the Oscars a piece of his mind. Read more below.

(Video) Ice Cube Speaks Out On Oscar Snub: “I’m Not Surprised”

Earlier this week, Ice Cube stopped by the Wendy Williams Show as part of his press run for his upcoming film,’Ride Along 2′. While sitting down with the gossip queen, Ice Cube opened up about his feelings about the Academy choosing to leave ‘Straight Outta Compton’ off the list of nominees for ‘Best Picture’ despite it’s worldwide success. The N.W.A. icon kept his cool when talking about the snub saying he “can’t be mad.” He continued, “I’m not pissed. I’m not surprised. It’s the Oscars, you know. They do what they do.” Cube did open up about one huge honor N.W.A. will receive this year however; being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. When Williams asked if he would have been disappointed to not have been inducted he said;

“It is nice to be recognized, but N.W.A is anti-establishment so we’re used to people trying to dismiss what we gotta say, used to the industry looking down on us. We were the black sheeps of the industry and we used to it. If we didn’t get nominated, that would be familiar territory.”
