Kendrick dropping surprise album?

Kendrick Lamar may very well be pulling a Beyoncé and dropping a surprise album. A customer caught the above photo while at a Walmart in Canada (I assume, since his Twitter location is “Somewhere in Canada,”) listing K.dot with an upcoming release date of January 27.

With “i” doing quite well on radio and the hardcore fanbase that he has, this would likely fare VERY well for Kendrick. He also has always made it well known that he’s not very interested in all the hoopla of the music business, so a no frills, no promo album rollout plan would really be the ideal plan for him.

Twitter user Cawb made a good point when I posed the question, though:

It would have to be shipped by now and when that happens it leaks 100%. Usually Itunes first, followed by store. Itunes will secure it from leaking. Watch The Throne and Beyonce pulled that same move going digital first followed by instore.

Guess we’ll find out what the deal is come this Tuesday! Kendrick‘s major label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city, was released in October of 2012. The album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 with 242,000 units sold in the first week, and went on to be certified platinum.
