Bo Jackson was arguably the greatest athlete to ever play professionals sports, as he was the first to ever be selected to an all-star game in baseball and all-pro in the NFL. So you might want to take Bo’s word when he says Cam Newton has yet to even scratch the surface when it comes to the impact Newton can make in the NFL.

After the Carolina Panthers signed Cam Newton to a 100+ million dollar contract extension during the offseason, many skeptics paused at the fact Carolina invested so much money in a quarterback who hasn’t been as consistent as some would like him to be.

As a fellow Auburn alum, Bo Jackson felt the need to say tell the naysayers to keep their mouths shut when it comes to criticizing Newton’s play:

“It’s easy to sit there on your sofa and drink a beer and eat peanuts and criticize somebody,” Jackson said Friday night at Newton’s charity kickball tournament at BB&T Ballpark. “Get your lazy ass out there and try to play.”

“Those people that are poking holes in his game need to come out and put on a uniform and try to do what he does,” Jackson said. “Period. Bottom line.”

“He hasn’t even scratched the surface of his talent,” he said.

Cam Newton might very-well be the most athletically gifted quarterback in the league, who has the ability to not only make throws with velocity but also use his 6″5′ frame and speed to maneuver around defenders. But with all his athletic ability, Newton has yet to put it all together night-after-night and help make the Panthers a super-bowl threat.

Although it can’t hurt to have someone like Bo Jackson have faith in you.
