As Michael Jordan battles a grocery store chain in court over using his likeness to try and sell steaks, a lot of MJ’s financial information has been coming out. Yesterday we reported that his name alone is worth close to $500 million dollars, which is close to the amount Nike has paid him since 2000. His lawyers argue that on an individual basis, each time his name is used it’s worth about $10 million dollars!

The grocery store chain Michael is suing knows that MJ and his lawyers don’t want his finances made public, so they are doing all they can to drag it out and make those records be available. They hoped that MJ would just drop it because he doesn’t want things revealed but apparently he doesn’t care.

Companies like Nike, Upper Deck & more also don’t want it made public how much they pay Michael.

One interesting tidbit that came out of the procedures is the fact Michael actually turned down an $80 million dollar pay day to endorse a headphone brand. The name of the company wasn’t revealed but if someone is turning down $80 mill then you know the money isn’t the issue from the lawsuit. It’s the principle that he worked hard for his name and trademark and won’t let anyone infringe on that. Or in the case of the headphone company, he just wasn’t feeling the idea of being associated with them. It’s not like he needs to take any offer presented to him at this point.
