French Montana’s sophomore album, MC4, was set to drop on August 19. However, just two days before, French took to Twitter to reveal that the project had to be pushed back for sample clearances. It was quite strange, considering that the album had already been pressed up and shipped out, so it would result in a loss of money for the parent label, Epic Records. It’s also pretty unheard of to have gone that far ahead with an album without first getting the proper clearances for samples.

As suspected, that wasn’t the actual reason.

Epic‘s President, L.A. Reid, called into the Rap Radar podcast this week, and revealed that they really pushed it back because of what many suspected, a lack of buzz. In his words, they still had “work to do” and knew the “monstrous success” they were aiming for wouldn’t have been achieved.

The album has already leaked because of Target accidentally stocking their shelves with it on the intended release date, so hopefully this doesn’t really hurt Montana when he officially releases it on the new date, October 14. Do you think this will get pushed back even further?
