Yasiin Bey, who a lot of us know as ‘Mos Def,’ has recently announced his retirement. Fans from all over were hoping that he had a change of heart, but the chances of that are looking pretty slim. Bey took to Facebook to say he is now throwing the towel in but will be giving one last concert.

Bey says,

.“I’m retiring for real this year, this week. With the 17th anniversary of Black on Both Sides being released, I am grateful to have had the career that I have been able to enjoy.”

Bey, who currently lives in South Africa, is now in a legal dispute with them. He had planned to perform two shows later this month in London at the O2 Forum. The first show was actually set to go down last night with the other set to kick off on Oct. 24. The venue pushed things back due to a “urgent issue” as the cause of the delay. Due to Bey’s current immigration status, we are not quite sure what is going on. He offered to do a lifestream show for anyone who had purchased a ticket.

He says,

I do have one or two films that I made commitments to earlier, before I announced my retirement. Apart from that, I’m moving onto other things, still being creative. You know, definitely fashion, textiles, and just art. Whatever I can create that’s beautiful and useful, that’s what I wanna do.”

He continued saying they he’s got a bunch of “exclusive new material” in the works that he’s offered up to Jay Z to stream on Tidal. Super dope!

Sad that Bey will be retiring but we must give him props for the life changing material he has given us.
