It sounds like even Andre Iguodala was in awe when Lebron James chased him down and blocked his layup attempt in game seven of the NBA finals, which then eventually led to Kyrie Irving’s dagger three pointer and the Cavs winning their first ring. It was an iconic moment in basketball history and that lasting impact is not lost on Iguodala, despite his role in the play.

In an interview with Chris Haynes of ESPN, Iguodala talked about the play in depth and voiced nothing but respect for Lebron and the incredible defensive play he made.

“I laugh about it all the time,” Iguodala said. “People try to joke on me. I still get mentions all day from fans always talking about the block.

“I’m like, ‘Man, that sh– was so dope to me too.’ I was a fan. That sh– was amazing. When he blocked it, I was like, ‘Damn, somebody got shot.’ I thought it was funny. Somebody just made a good play. What you want me to do? If you enjoy the game of basketball, you should just be like, ‘Dude made a great play. F— it.'”

He even gave J.R. Smith a little bit of the credit for forcing him to move the ball in a different way just before being blocked.

“I looked back at it too, and had I came in from a different angle, I could have (dunked it),” Iguodala said. “But you know who made the play? J.R. made the play. Because I came in thinking dunk and then I took off and he swiped (at the ball) and I had to move the ball. If you look, I moved the ball (to my right). I just tried to finish the play.”

Seeing how if he converts that layup there is a very high chance the Warriors win that game, you could argue that Bron’s block was the most important play in the history of the finals. These two teams will meet up for the first time since game seven on Christmas day.

In case you want to see it over and over, here’s the block one more time.
