Philadelphia Mayor Helps Restrain Erratic Homeless Man After Confrontation

While Mayor Nutter was talking with staff members outside the Municipal Services Building examining problem areas, cell phone video captures a 56 year-old man, George Creamer, peregrinating the same area behind the party.

All of a sudden, Creamer approaches the group and was grabbed by one of the mayor’s security. Once security and Creamer hit the ground, the mayor quickly interceded by grabbing Creamer and restraining the man.

The 56-year-old Creamer wasn’t arrested.

The mayor didn’t believe the party was in imminent danger or felt threatened. After viewing the video of himself, Creamer later explained he just wanted to speak with the mayor regarding homelessness in the city and how safe havens are being eradicated throughout the city. In addition, many homeless are concerned about how the Pope’s visit in September will further disrupt their precarious situation.

“No, I’m not a violent person, no not at all, and that’s why I’m not in jail cause they know me,” Creamer said to a news station.

The mayor has no plans to increase security.

“Seven and a half years we’ve never had any kind of situation and again I was not harmed, I was not threatened, I didn’t feel threatened, I mean I’m from West Philly. I can take care of myself,” said Nutter.
