MLB: Yankees are willing to enhance offer to Jeter

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl The Yankees are expected to ramp up negotiations in coming days in an effort to put longtime star Derek Jeter back in pinstripes, but Jeter will still have to accept some sort of pay cut to stay, according to a league source familiar with their thinking. The Yankees appear willing to enhance their latest $45 million, three-year offer to retain the iconic Yankee, but are said to be unwilling to match his previous salary on a deal of at least three years. Jeter just completed a 10-year, $189-million deal that paid him about $21 million in 2010.

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl GREEN BAY AT MINNESOTA, 1 P.M. ET WHAT TO WATCH FOR: In the first game between these two, the Packers gave up 196 yards rushing against the Vikings, which was the highest total (by 40 yards) since Dom Capers became the team’s defensive coordinator. Adrian Peterson had 131 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries and Green Bay can expect more of the same today. The Vikings’ wild card is how effective WR Sidney Rice (hip surgery) will be in his first action of the season. Rice was Brett Favre’s go-to receiver last season, and he is anxious to play. How long Rice lasts could go a long way toward deciding the outcome of this game. The rest of the games after the jump…

Bears force Packers’ fumble, win on late FG – Should the Packers have let the Bears score a TD instead of getting the game winning field goal?

Posted by Sabrina B. @gametimegirl CHICAGO — The Chicago Bears stamped themselves as contenders in the NFC. And they did it with a big assist from their oldest rival. Jay Cutler threw for 221 yards, Brian Urlacher forced a key fumble and Chicago took advantage of a team-record 18 penalties by the Packers to beat Green Bay 20-17 on Monday night. Robbie Gould won it with a 19-yard field goal with 4 seconds left. The Packers’ James Jones lost a fumble on a hit by Urlacher in the final minutes. Then Morgan Burnett was called for pass interference on Earl Bennett, setting up the winning kick. “It’s fun, that is all you can ask for,” Cutler said. “The defense did a great job, we struggled the whole game, felt like we kind of were killing ourselves.”
