Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick(notes) will talk to Connecticut high school students about the horrors of dogfighting.

Vick was convicted in 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting ring. He served 18 months in prison. He is scheduled to speak to New Haven high school students Tuesday with The Humane Society of the United States, which has been campaigning to end dogfighting.

The former Atlanta Falcons star was signed by the Eagles in August 2009, less than a month after his release from prison, prompting an outcry from animal rights groups and animal-loving football fans.

But Vick has made the most of his second chance in the NFL, becoming one of the league’s top players this season.

Vick will share his story with students and talk about the dire consequences of dogfighting.
