Wladimir Klitschko won an unanimous decision over David Haye, adding the WBA title to his heavyweight haul on Saturday.

The victory in a rain-soaked football stadium in Hamburg means Klitschko and his older brother, Vitali, hold all three major heavyweight titles.

Wladimir already had the IBF title (and minor WBO, IBO belts), while Vitali is the WBC champion.

Wladimir Klitschko added the WBA heavyweight title to his other belts when he beat David Haye on points in Hamburg on Saturday night.

The IBO and WBO champion won the fight at the Imtech Arena by unanimous decision.

The result means that Wladimir and his brother Vitali, the WBC champion, now hold all the heavyweight titles.

Haye’s speed and Klitschko’s reach advantage were the features of the opening rounds, with Haye letting go with a few right hands while trying to stay away from the Ukrainian’s jab.

The 30-year-old Briton hit the target a few times in the third round but Klitschko, 35, took it well and scored with a couple of his own.

A confident Haye seemed to taunt Klitschko, smiling and talking after taking a right or two and drawing blood from his opponent’s nose in the fourth.

The first really telling blow came in the fifth round when Klitschko’s right nearly put Haye on the deck. Bleeding from a cut under his right eye, Klitschko was docked a point in the seventh round for pushing his opponent down.

Haye was playing to referee Genaro Rodriguez from the United States every time he ducked under the taller Klitschko’s punches, probably breaking the Ukrainian’s rhythm.

At the end of the eighth round there was still little daylight between the scores. But with the pace of the fight slowing considerably, Haye’s chances were fading fast.

He was not landing enough scoring blows but did a good job of making Klitschko miss.

There was some excitement in the eleventh round when Haye was given a standing count after falling down again, hoping the referee would penalise Klitschko.

Looking for the 50th knockout of his professional career, Klitschko walked into a solid right hand in the final round but he kept his cool and took no chances.

Klitschko weighed 110 kg and Haye 96.5.
