There is nothing like an R&B track [from the 90s] to bring those old feelings back. The Jagged Edge, Xscape, Shai, etc., just made you zone out. Things have changed and R&B artists such as Bobby V are beginning to notice. He’s calling the R&B game a, “weird place.” One that’s turned predominatly hip-hop. Can’t say that I disagree. Since Drake came out (lol) singers have found that they need to be able to rap and sing on the same damn track.

Check out what else Bobby had to say on the current state of soulful sounds in his interview with Rolling Out.

Bobby V says that he’s ready to throw in the towel. Attempting to be one of the, “forerunners [who are] bringing R&B back” he says is not working out as much, because 2014 R&B is, “black market.” It’s all about hip hop at this point.

The rappers are singing. So if rap is more popular than R&B and rappers are singing, then it kind of leaves us out the door — those that really do real R&B. Of course, you can make an R&B song degrading women and saying some negative things and that may work. Because it seems like those are the R&B songs that are working now, which is a little sad to me. But I’m not that kind of guy.

If this is the case, you can’t quit now B! At least Jagged Edge is ready to do it again.
