Also debuting high this week is Brooklyn native Joey Bada$$, coming in at number 5 with his debut album, B4.Da.$$! 58k is huge for an artist with relatively no radio play, and it also gives him the number ONE spot on both Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Rap Albums. Congrats! Not faring as well was rapper Lupe Fiasco, though, whose new album Tetsuo & Youth comes in at number 14 on the Billboard 200 with equivalent sales of 42k. Get the full top 10 below!

Billboard’s Top 10 Album Sales, Week Ending 1/11/15 … Congrats To Rae Sremmurd On A #5 Debut!

Congrats are in order for Mike WiLL Made It’s dynamic duo, Rae Sremmurd. The pair make for the only new arrival on the Billboard 200 this week, as their debut album SremmLife comes in at number 5 with 49,000 units sold, 34k of which were via traditional album sales. After just 4 weeks on the charts with The Pinkprint, Nicki Minaj has officially surpassed the 500k mark in sales, solidifying her gold certification! Slipping from the number 2 position it’s held the last 3 weeks into number 3, The Pinkprint sold an additional 60,000 units this week, making the total tally at 544k! Note that this is the SPS number (Billboard’s new methodology,) as her physical sales are at 384k. J. Cole also remains in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 this week, as 2014 Forest Hills Drive is steady at number 7 with another 45k sold. Check out the full top 10 below!

Billboard’s Top 10 Album Sales, Week Ending 12/7/14 … Congrats To Mary J. Blige On A Top 10 Debut!

We are in the second week of Billboard’s revamped metric system for the top albums in the country, and Taylor Swift is still sitting pretty at the top. 1989 moved 274,000 units in the week ending December 7, with 44k of that number due to the new calculations. As previously reported, Billboard will now factor album streaming and single sales into the overall tally, with 1,500 streams (on providers like Spotify, Pandora, etc.) counting toward 1 full sale, and 10 single purchases as 1 sale as well. However, the Billboard 200 chart (which is all genres in one) is the only chart to use this system, as the specific genre charts will remain with the original formula for now. As I noted last week, hip-hop doesn’t seem to be benefitting all that much from the change. It’s quite noticeable this week as Rick Ross, Eminem and Beyoncé were all knocked out of the top 10 after just one week there. Mary J. Blige debuts this week with The London Sessions, however, moving 57,000 units since its release last week. Only 2,000 come from streaming and/or single sales, though. The Early Sales Projections Are In! Guess How Much J. Cole’s ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive’ Is Set To Sell In Its First Week!

Though just released yesterday, J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive first week sales projections are already in, and they’re looking to be amazing! Before I reveal the numbers, let’s review what we are working with here. Only just a couple of weeks ago, Cole reemerged from Nowheresville, and revealed that the album was coming. Since dropping his sophomore effort in the summer of 2013 and doing a few months of touring promotion, the Roc Nation rapper has been completely off the radar until the new album announcement. In addition to that, he’s released ZERO singles to radio for this project, unlike the last two albums, and has done relatively zero promo on top of that. The most he’s done has been a magazine interview and one music video beforehand, with the second video dropping on the night of the album’s release (last night.)

And though he didn’t hit the 6-figure mark, Big K.R.I.T. had a great debut with his new album Cadillactica, moving 44k units in its first week out and nabbing the number 5 spot on the Billboard 200. Congrats! Get the rest of the top 10 below.
