Apple Releases Java Security Update for Mac Users

  After the hack earlier today Apple released   a Java security patch to end users.  The update is available  in the Software Update pane under the Mac App Store application or you can update the patch directly from Apple’s website.”Java for OS X 2013-001 delivers improved security, reliability, and compatibility by updating Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_41.On systems that have not already installed Java for OS X 2012-006, this update disables the Java SE 6 applet plug-in. To use applets on a web page, click on the region labeled “Missing plug-in” to download the latest version of the Java applet plug-in from Oracle.Please quit any web browsers and Java applications before installing this update.”


Tech Talk Must Read: Homeland Security Urges You To Disable Java

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is seriously urging those of you using Java software to disable it! Homeland security says there is vulnerability in the Oracle’s programming platform. Apple has already disabled Java for Mac users to avoid any issues. In the statement released by the department, “Java 7 Update 10 and earlier contain an unspecified vulnerability that can allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.” The vulnerability could make it easier for hackers to commit identity thefts as well as set up computers for cyber attacks.
