Nike Sportswear X Black History Month Destroyer Jacket

3 Images

The Destroyer Jacket – which was arguably the breakout piece of late 2010 (at least in Nike Sportswear terms) – isn’t quitting in 2011. As part of the Black History Month releases that we’ve been covering, Freshness now has a preview of the Destroyer Letterman-style jacket that is included in the release. If the sneakers in the release are fairly well executed, and do a decent job of working in the Black History symbolism, this jacket seems to be an ideal vehicle for expressing the month long commemoration of African American struggles and triumphs. Maybe it’s just the sense of classic style from the chenille patch or the embroidery on the sleeves, but it seems like it could be varsity jacket from a HBCU. The jacket features all of the high quality and attention to detail we’ve come to expect from the Destroyer series by NSW: melton wool body and beautiful leather sleeves, with a touch of technicality added by the zip welt chest pocket. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day; and check out the images after the jump, and watch for a limited release in February.
