The event went down in the Brazilian fighter’s homecountry, and he gave fans a fight to remember by knocking Okami out with a picture-perfect combination and follow-up strikes.

After a relatively cautious first round, Silva began to open up with lightning quick combinations in the second round and picked Okami apart with his hands down.

With the victory, Silva remains the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world and extends his record to 31-4 with 18 knockouts.

His current UFC streaks consist of nine consecutive title defenses and 14 victories inside the Octagon. He has wins over Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin (x2), Chael Sonnen, Demian Maia, Vitor Belfort and Nate Marquardt.

Depending on the outcome of the UFC 136 bout between Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann, that could create the next challenger for his title.

Sonnen and Silva met before at UFC 117 where Sonnen won the better part of five rounds before losing by submission in the final round. He has been outspoken on the potential idea of a rematch, and it’s something he plans on making sure happens by the end of 2012.
