Jason Hill, No. 83 on the Jacksonville Jaguars, is a wideout with 55 career receptions in six NFL seasons who is listed as doubtful on his team’s injury list this week due to a hip problem. His relevance to Sunday’s game at the Meadowlands relates solely to the comments he made regarding Jets cornerback Darelle Revis  – a two-time Pro Bowler  – and his stature as a star in the New York media who is “overhyped.”  Revis fired back read more after the jump.

“I don’t even know who that dude is,” Revis said while seated at his locker Friday. “What’s his name again? I have no clue.”

Hill, a 2007 third-round draft pick out of Washington State who has started four games in his career, ostensibly overstepped. His words have already been melted into motivation by Revis.

“He shouldn’t have been talking in the first place,” Revis said. “He needs to get on the field and play.”

Hill, speaking with the Florida Times-Union on Thursday, said: “This is a league full of great players. I think sometimes they get overhyped. I talked to Drew (Coleman), Drew played (for the Jets). He says it’s just the aura of New York. They got a big media.”
He paused, then added.

“This is a game full of good players making plays,” Hill said. “(Revis) just made a lot more plays on TV than we’ve made being here in Jacksonville. He’s a good player. We respect him. Hopefully he respects us because we’re going to bring it just like they’re going to bring it.”

Earlier in the week, Jaguars tailback Maurice Jones-Drew joked during a conference call with New York reporters that Jacksonville was actually the bigger market, insisting that New York had “the small lights.”

Revis, 26, responded to Hill’s comments, but was unwilling to recognize the receiver as an entity in the Jaguars’ offense, while dismissing the thought that the Jets and he are the product of being “overhyped.” He challenged Hill to back up his talk, turning the slight into further fuel for what he has already called a “revenge” year now that he is back to full health from a hamstring injury that limited him last season. He closed out the Jets’ Week 1 win over the Cowboys with an interception with less than a minute left that set up the game-winning field goal.

Revis did not record an interception in 13 games last season, but had six in 2009 and five in 2008.

“He’s the best in the league. It’s not close,” Rex Ryan said of Revis. “Jason Hill, (Kassim) Osgood, any of those guys that are out there will find that out. Just like they do every week when they go up against this guy.”

Hill, who practiced Friday, softened his stance a little, saying he is striving to reach Revis’ level.

“He’s a good player, Pro Bowl player, I’m trying to make it to the Pro Bowl, too,” Hill said. “This’ll be a good game to put some notches on our belts, too.”

Revis didn’t sound impressed with all of the talk.

“We’ll see Sunday,” he said.
