Rap star Rick Ross “personally called the Memphis staff and said he’s OK and still on his way to perform at Memphis Madness tonight” after reportedly suffering a seizure on his flight, a spokesman for the University of Memphis announced Friday.

TMZ said the rapper fell unconscious as his flight was leaving Fort Lauderdale for Tennessee. The website report said the plane had to make an emergency landing and that CPR was performed on Ross. But other reports indicated Ross was administered to when the plane landed in Memphis.

Memphis basketball coach Josh Pastner told CBSSports.com that “[Ross] is still coming. He’s alive,” and Lamar Chance, assistant athletic media relations director at the University of Memphis, confirmed Ross’ status in an email to FoxSportsSouth.com.

Friends of the star also have tweeted that Ross is OK.

Rapper Wale tweeted: “I just talked to Ross…he’s 100 pct ok..”

Memphis Madness will air on SportSouth at 8 p.m. EST.
