When the New England Patriots gave Chad Ochocinco a three-year, $11.5 million contract in 2011, they thought they had found their new vertical wideout to fill the void created when Randy Moss was traded.

Ochocinco, however, proved not to be the big-play wide receiver the Patriots sought, and now the team reportedly has approached him to restructure the remaining two years on his deal, a source told the Sports Business Journal on Wednesday.

Ochocinco had only 15 receptions for 276 yards and a single touchdown in 15 games this past season. He had just one catch for 21 yards in Super Bowl XLVI.

Under the terms of his current deal, Ochocinco is due $3 million plus a $100,000 workout bonus each of the next two seasons.
