Vonn surpassed American Phil Mahre’s three overall titles and now sits in second place on the international women’s list, just behind Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell. Moser-Proell currently holds six titles, a record that has not been broken since its inception in the1970s.

Vonn still plans to compete next week in the giant slalom events at the World Cup finals. She clinched the cup early (1,808 points) with three individual races (super-G, downhill, and the GS) left in the season.

“It is a lot less stressful clinching the overall title before the finals,” Vonn said. “Last year, I think I lost years off of my life. It’s been an amazing season, one where I’ve had a lot of fun and enjoyed every race. I’ve found my rhythm in GS for the first time in my career.”

Vonn is no stranger to accolades; she won Olympic gold in Vancouver in the downhill, she received 2010 Laureus World Sports Awards Sportswoman of the Year honors, and was named the US Olympic Committee’s Sportswoman of the year in 2010.
