(NJ) – Hill, 37, a native of South Orange, willfully neglected to file taxes for 2005, 2006 and 2007, Fishman said. The three charges each carry a potential penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Hill owns four corporations: Creations Music, Inc., Boogie Tours, Inc., L.H. Productions 2001, Inc., and Studio 22, Inc. Royalties from her music and film career serve as her primary source of income.

Hill burst onto the scene in the early ’90s as a member of the Fugees. Her critically acclaimed debut solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, earned her five Grammys, including Album of the Year.

Hill’s attorney, Nathan Hochman of Bingham McCutchen, didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

She is scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael A. Shipp to face the charges on June 29.
