EA’s Madden series prides itself on creating the most authentic football video game experience on the planet. From signature moves to stadium turf to licensed shoes, the game’s developers try to nail the look and feel of every inch of the NFL, and for the most part, they do a pretty good job.

Except when it comes to Marcus Thomas.

As picked up by Kotaku, the New York Giants defensive tackle went on a Twitter tirade Tuesday upon learning that his player photo in the just-released Madden NFL 13 is, well, the wrong Marcus Thomas.

“the creators of madden needs to b slapped for putting an imposter pic in place of me that’s not me for the last time I don’t look like that,” he tweeted. “I been in the nfl going on 6 years and y’all still hav another mans face for my pic on madden i hate y’all hate is very strong but I do.”

The man pictured in place of the disgruntled Thomas is also Marcus Thomas, a running back who played for five separate teams between 2008 and 2009 and only saw playing time in three games. He’s been MIA from the NFL ever since.

In Madden, however, running back Marcus Thomas has been annoying defensive tackle Marcus Thomas for years.

“How y’all gone hav my pic rookie season and then change it to a completely dif person for ds rest of my career,” he vented.

It turns out the two Thomas’ briefly spent time together on the Denver Broncos during the 2009 season, which could explain the mix-up. Thomas (the defensive tackle, boy this does get confusing) signed with the Giants two weeks ago.
