The event will be fairly lengthy, it appears, with Microsoft allotting a full five hours for it. Company CEO Steve Ballmer will certainly be there along with key executives. There will also no doubt be several hardware partners to show off the various Windows 8 devices that have been unveiled over the past few months.

One of the devices that will certainly be present is Microsoft Surface — the invitation says “Including a Microsoft Surface Reception.” Microsoft is expected to finally reveal pricing of its homegrown tablet that surprised the tech world this summer, either at the event or earlier.

The Oct. 26 launch is the final step in Windows 8′s official development cycle. The operating system was first shown publicly at Microsoft’s BUILD developers conference last fall and has since gonethrough a developer preview, a consumer preview, a release preview and RTM (release to manufacturing). The launch is the general release, when it’ll be on store shelves.
