On July 20th, nut-case, James Holmes went into a midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises,” and let of gun rounds, which lead to the death of 12 victims and injuries to 70 others. Now, Holmes’ attorney entered a plea of NOT GUILTY by reason of mental insanity. The just as crazy, Judge Carlos Samour Jr accepted it. Hit the jump for more details into the case.
It’s being said that a mental evaluation can be a lengthy process, and if ‘found not guilty by reason of insanity, he would be committed indefinitely to the state mental hospital. He could eventually be released if doctors find his sanity has been restored, but that is considered unlikely.’ I may not be a law major, but I was under the impression that in order to make a plea – and then it be accepted – you have to be evaluated FIRST! Holmes’ defense has turned into ‘mental insanity’ because he’s making attempts to avoid the death penalty. I’m not BIG of capital punishment however, Prosecutors say Holmes spent months buying weapons, ammunition and materials for explosives and scouted the theater in advance. He donned police-style body armor, tossed a gas canister into the seats and opened fire, they say.
You give me your thoughts on this. Is he REALLY ‘metally ill?’ By the way has this guy said ONE word since he’s been arrested? I feel like I should have heard his voice by now.
