Delbert “Shorty” Belton, an 88 year old World War II Veteran, was murdered in his car, while waiting for a friend. The alleged suspects in the murder of the war vet, are two teenagers who are being charged with brutally beating him to death. Police found the victim in the back seat of his car, ” wedged between the seats of his car”, in the parking lot of an Eagles Lodge in Northern Spokane, Washington.

One of the suspects, 16 year old, Demetrius Glenn, turned himself into police officials accompanied by his lawyer, charged as an adult, with first-degree murder and first-degree robbery. The second teen suspect Kenan D. Adams-Kinard, is currently being searched for, after being seen on surveillance camera accompanying Glenn.

The act is thought to have taken place as a robbery, yet the war vet is not known for carrying more than $150 on him, said his daughter-in-law Barbara Belton.

“That was no way to have to die,” she said. “They said even if he had survived, there probably would have been brain damage. It was horrendous.” “Who beats an 88-year-old man in the face?”

A memorial was held at the lodge where his friends embraced his life, showering the memorial with flowers U.S flags, and messages of sympathy. Although the memorial had been filled with beautiful comments from those that knew him, his daughter-in-law Barbara Belton showed some empathy for the teen suspect by stating:

“the suspected who’s in custody, was “awfully young” to be involved in such a terrible crime”

“Kids today, they think they can do whatever they want and it doesn’t matter. Kids do this kind of stuff and end up in jail and probably end up worse when they come out.”
