After Judge Shira Scheindlin ruled that police officials “violated the civil rights of tens of thousands of people by wrongly targeting black and Hispanic men with its stop-and-frisk program,” the judge called for some major changes to take place! Judge Scheinlin delegated an outside monitor to overlook the changes within the program, including: reforms in policies, training and supervision, and she ordered a pilot program to test body-worn cameras in some precincts where most stops occur.

Thursday, the Federal court appealed and blocked the judges ruling, on the basis that:

“she ran afoul of the code of conduct for U.S. judges by compromising the necessity for a judge to avoid the appearance of partiality in part because of a series of media interviews and public statements responding publicly to criticism of the court,” reports HP

The court appealed her decisions involving the outside monitor to help change the policy department policy and training program associated with the stop and frisk program.

In my opinion it seems like the she was wrongfully taken off of the case, for stating her thoughts on the issue through media but her initial ruling and the proactive changes that she planned on making to the program seemed really promising, its a shame they took her off.
