Washington Redskins v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Darrelle Revis’ $16 million a year contract — no guaranteed money, so no dead money on the Bucs salary cap if he is traded — could soon turn him into a one-year rental as a hired gun for teams on the verge of going to the Super Bowl.

The old regime in Tampa of GM Mark Domenik and coach Greg Schiano that traded for Revis and signed him to the six-year $96 million year-to-year contract was fired after the Bucs’ 4-12 season. Speculation has begun that the Bucs will be willing to deal Revis to clear his $16 million off their salary cap and use his space to sign several players. It appears the Bucs are not shopping Revis, but teams that view themselves as being a shutdown corner away from Super Bowl XLIX are calling them.

A team like the San Francisco 49ers could definitely benefit from having a shutdown corner, hmmm
