Sixers’ K.J. McDaniels is known for his highlights and rather entertaining way of playing ball. Well, the 21-year old rookie, freak athlete has struck again, this time LITERALLY. The crazy block over Raptors’ guard, Greivis Vasquez, that resembled a hardcore volleyball spike, turned out to be more destructive than everyone thought. After the ball went flying into the stands, it hit a female fan who suffered a concussion as result! Yikes, hit the jump to check out the video…

It’s that innate ability to reject shooters that made a second-round draft pick out of Clemson the subject of a SportsIllustrated.com cover story by Rob Mahoney on Tuesday. Mahoney writes that if McDaniels 5.0 block percentage holds through the season, or even stays above 4.0 percent, he would become the most prolific shot-blocker at his height in NBA history.

McDaniels’ swats have already gained him some notoriety around the league, none more so than his absolute destruction of Toronto Raptors guard Greivis Vasquez back in November—a play that’s about to become even more famous. As it turns out, the block was so ferocious, it wound up injuring a fan in the front row.

The jewel of his rejection résumé might just be the play of the season to date: A complete demolition of a Greivis Vasquez runner, rocketed into the stands at such a violent velocity as to cause actual injury.

“I surprised myself,” McDaniels said of the block. “There was a lady who got hit by the ball who got a concussion, I believe.” McDaniels, upon hearing what happened, sent flowers.
