IFWT_Frank Kaminsky Andrew Harrison

Stories containing the use of the n-word have been in the media a lot lately. White celebrities have come under fire if they’re caught using it; often losing jobs, sponsorships and more.  One argument in the discussion is the way black people use the n-word in casual conversation, giving it many different meanings.  Kentucky Wildcats guard Andrew Harrison was caught on the microphone saying “F*ck that n*gga” after a question about Frank Kaminsky was directed to UK forward Karl-Anthony Towns.  Harrison apologized both on Twitter and to Kaminsky personally.

“He reached out to me, we talked about it, [I’m] over it,” Kaminsky told reporters Saturday. “Nothing needs to be made out of it.”

Harrison was of course upset after Wisconsin beat Kentucky 71-64 in the Final Four, ending the Wildcats quest for a perfect season at 38-1 and the national championship.

While Harrison’s apology was appreciated and his use of the word was in anger and not malicious, you can only imagine the uproar if the tables were turned and Kaminsky had used the word when speaking of Harrison.

We clearly have a double standard that’s somewhat understood in these situations but it does lend credence to the argument that black people should also eradicate the word to stop others from using it as well.
