Two suspects were killed by police after they let off shots in the parking lot outside of Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas.

One of the suspects in the shooting in Garland, Texas, late Sunday night has been identified as Elton Simpson, 30, from phoenix who was convicted in 2011 of a terror-related charge. Simpson is thought to have sent a tweet before the attack that reads “May Allah accept us as mujahideen,” “#texasattack”.

Authorities reported that two armed men pulled up in a vehicle and started shooting at a security officer. Moments later, those two suspects were shot and killed by Garland police. Luckily, the officer who was shot was rushed to the hospital but he suffers from non life threatening injuries.

The exhibit was shut all the way down and everyone who was in attendance had to be evacuated to a near by school. Also, neighboring businesses were forced to be evacuated because it was suspected that the men had a bomb in their car.

The Curtis Culwell Center was hosting a controversial art event that had a few features of the Prophet Muhammad as a cartoon. The exhibit and contest was started by an organization called American Freedom Defense Initiative, they were there to raise awareness and stand up against violent intimidation.
